Recruit Training Curriculum 

·        The Constitutional Rights of Individuals

·        Criminal Law Relating to Major Crimes, Minor Crimes,

·        Evidence and Procedure

·        Firearms Laws and Proper Use of Firearms

The police related subjects are taught by qualified and experienced officers while the academic subjects are taught by certified teachers.  Training for regular police recruits is over a period of two (2) years.  The first twenty-four (24) weeks are spent in residence.  In the case of Fire Department and Police Band Recruits, the initial period in residence is sixteen (16) weeks.

  • Frequently Asked Questions

       

    1.     Can I go directly into CDU, DEU or the Strike Force after completing my initial training? 

    Ans:  No you will have to complete an eighteen-month probationary period, and on completion a determination will be made as to where you would be posted. 

    2.     Can I stay at home while I am training? 

    Ans:  All recruits must live on campus for the first six months of their training.  However, married persons are allowed to sleep at home on weekends.   

    3.     What type of professionals is the Police Force seeking to recruit? 

    Ans:  Accountants, lawyers, computer technicians and operators, persons with special training in the science field, pilots, educators, draftsmen, criminologist, persons with degrees in management etc. 

    4.     What do the entrance exams consists of?

    Ans:  English Language, Mathematics, General Knowledge and Intelligence.

    5.     If I am from a Family Island, will I be allowed to return after my training?

    Ans:  After completing your two-year probationary period, you will be required to serve in any division of the Force at the pleasure of the Commissioner of Police.
