Domestic Violence is a Crime!

Our Focus

The focus of this counselling service will be to  promote and assist in the safety and emotional well being of the communities of the Bahamas, which is the core goal of the Community Relations Section of the Royal Bahamas Police Force.

Why is this service needed?

The counselling sessions and hot-lines are designed to encourage communication of conflict and to provide insight into problems with the goal being relief of   symptoms, changes in behavior leading to improved social, vocational and personality growth so as to minimize violence within the family structure.

What do we offer ?

During the couselling  process and  sessions clients are encouraged to talk about their problems in a safe, supportive and confidential setting.

The sessions can be solution focused and/or explorative.  The progression of these sessions can aid in seeking solutions by providing session not only for the  victim, but for the children and the abuser in some cases.

What are our goals ?

1. To provide hope and help to persons in the communities of the Bahamas.

2. To assist in the disruption of normal day to day functions in family            relationship and social units.

3. To aid in emotional support and assistance to persons experiencing   marital  conflicts and domestic violence.

  • Parent/child

  • Between siblings

  • Between neighbors

  • Between relatives

  • In same sex couples

  • Roommates

5.  To make referrals where necessary.

Our Strategies

1. To assist in educating the public, police officers and front line workers on the dynamics  of  domestic violence by arranging seminars and speaking engagements in schools, churches and civic groups/organizations of the Bahamas.

2. To provide written literature to members of  the public on relative issues.

3. To provide assistance thru referrals to:

  • Social Services
