Mr. Bernard Kenneth Bonamy, a former
Commissioner of Police, was born on Cat Island, in The Bahamas.
He obtained an LL. B. from the University of the West Indies in
1978, and further received his Certificate in Legal Education
from the Eugene Dupuch Law School in 2001.
He enlisted in the Royal Bahamas
Police Force in 1963. After serving in the Force in numerous
positions, he was promoted to the position of Commissioner in
1987. He has held membership in a number of international
organizations including the International Association of Chiefs
of Police, the Association of Caribbean Commissioners of Police
and the International Drug Enforcement Association where he was
elected as President in April, 1996. He was also an Honorary
member of the Executive Committee of Interpol. Mr. Bonamy
received various medals for his work over the years including
the Royal Bahamas Police Force Long Service Good Conduct Medal
and the Royal Bahamas Police Force Meritorious Medal in 1982,
the Lieutenant of the Victorian Order (LVO) in 1985, the Queen's
Police Medal (QPM) in 2000 and a Companion of the Most
Distinguished Order of St. Michael and St. George (CMG) in 2002.
Mr. Bonamy, having retired from the
Royal Bahamas Police Force, is currently an Attorney-at-Law in
the law chambers of Sears & Co., in New Providence.
