The Royal Bahamas Police Force Retired Officers Association commenced negotiations in October 2003 in an effort to build a closer relationship between retired officers and the police force.
The first meeting was held on October 30, 2003, when committee members met with the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Paul Farquharson who gave them their purpose which included assisting the Police Force whenever it is needed, building a closer bond between retired officers, visiting those who are sick and disabled, liaise with other associations, provide death and other benefits for members in the framework of its finances provided the person is financially up to date, and to make representation to government affecting the welfare of its members. The committee members include: Mr. Errington Rahming, President; Mr. Loucius Weech, Vice President; Mrs. Alladyce Strachan, Secretary; Mrs. Willamae Toote, Assistant Secretary; Mr. Arthur Yearwood, Treasurer; Mr. Granville Antonio, Assistant Treasurer and Mr. Conrad Sweeting, Welfare.
On January 11, 2004, the Association attended its first official activity when they attended the Royal Bahamas Police Force Annual Church Service at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Boyd Road, officiated by Deacon Gregory Taylor. The highlight of the service was the acknowledgement of the Retired Officers Association and its members and a performance of a young talented group of siblings call “Rising Stars” who serenaded the audience with a beautiful song, “What If God Is Not Happy With Our Praise!”
There are approximately one hundred and fifty (150) retired officers enrolled and it is a non-profit self sustaining organization. Members are asked to pay $5.00 per month membership fee. The mission of the Association is to serve with honour, remember with pride, to have served our country with honor and now are bonding to serve each other with pride.
