The East Street South Station was first commissioned on February 21, 1990 by Mr. Bernard K. Bonamy, Commissioner of Police.  At the time it was headed by Deputy Superintendent of Police, Rueben Smith and manned by a staff of fifteen (15) officers of various ranks.  The station is situated at the southern end of New Providence, Nassau being the capital.

Over the past decade, the developments of sub-divisions and an influx of persons created a need for youth directed activities and improved community police relationship.  As the station evolved, a number of programs were instituted.

Community policing came on stream under the command of the then Assistant Superintendent, Allerdyce M. Strachan.  In 1992, the Police Youth Athletic and Social club was formed, serving males only.  In 1993 a female social club was added.

Changes in the Royal Bahamas Police Force, including Devolution that was designed to give autonomy to divisions has brought about another change in boundaries.  The new boundaries of the East Street South Divisions are South Beach form the sea to Baillou Hill Road to the East/West Highway to Prince Charles Drive, to the main entrance of Seabreeze Estates, south to the seashore.

The East Street South Division is under the Command of Superintendent, Franklin Dames, who heads a team of thirty-one (31) police officers including Scenes of Crime Officers, Bicyclist and just recently Motorcyclist.
